Teaching, Program Development, and Instructional Design

Experience

  • Currently a visiting professor at Rockhurst University, I've been in higher ed for twenty years, teaching creative writing, literature, publishing, and composition to students from 15 to 80, community college to private universities. I have particular expertise in online course design and pedagogy, creating courses that are equitable, accessible, and immersive.

  • In addition to designing and implementing course material, I've led initiatives and programs at colleges and universities aimed to support both students and faculty. At the largest post-secondary institution in New Mexico, I chaired the design and implementation of a new first-year composition program. At the University of Central Missouri, I was the editor of Pleiades, director of the writing series, and redesigned the major/minor curriculum. My expertise is in long-term programmatic design and training, building programs that are radical and sustainable.

  • Along with fifteen years of online teaching and LMS experience, I'm also finalizing certification in instructional design with a focus on the needs of higher ed and nonprofit arts spaces. With a deep knowledge of learning theories, I am adept at employing new tools to engage learners in transformative learning opportunities.
